If only I had Brad Pitt money

Hey there,

I take you on a tour of my new studio in this week's YouTube video.

Only watch it if you have a healthy imagination, as it's a blank slate.

Building studios is frought with compromise, unless you have Brad Pitt money. (He recently restored and reopened Miraval Studios in France. It's fancy.)

I do not have Brad Pitt money. I'm working with production music composer and boutique sample library maker money.

But there are plenty of decisions that don't require the residual checks from a Hollywood Blockbuster.

Will the vibe be warm and cozy, or feel like the deck of the Starship Enterprise?

Do you want the perfect, symmetrical mixing environment, or is proximity to guitars and collaborators of greater importance?

4 inches of a rigid fiberglass + an air gap on 80% of the walls and ceiling, or lean towards a natural, semi-reverberant control room space for more inspirational live tracking?

Most of these decisions are not either-or. There's nuance and in-between.

Go check out the video of my new studio, filmed before I've loaded in as much as a guitar pick.

Excited to move in and start making compromises.

Thoughts on how I should setup the space? Leave me a comment over on YouTube. Link below ↓.

Talk soon,

Jon

Save On Sounds With A Soul

The Somerville Summer Sale continues for a few more weeks. My friends and I sampled the go-to sounds used in our very own songs. Made for the Free Kontakt Player.
